As always, the National Motorcycle Museum will be in attendance, bringing 4 iconic machines from the Museum collection for the classic ‘hill-climb’....and here’s some info on just one of the bikes that the NMM are proud to highlight at the festival: GINGER WOODS ‘A’ TWIN (pictured) This 1938 Series ‘A’ Vincent HRD Racing Twin is the only surviving example of the racing ‘A’ twin racers. This bike made its debut at the ‘Dublin 100’, ridden by M Barrington in 1938 achieving the fastest time of the day and breaking the lap record in the process. The bike achieved immortality in the hands of Ginger Woods at Donnington where he broke the lap record and did his famous ‘leap’, truly a magnificent sight.Phil Vincent wanted a sporty version of the road bike, so it ran on standard 1 1/8” carbs, a compression ratio of 7.4:1 but it had wild camshafts making it difficult to start and reluctant to run below 3000 rpm, but it was exceptionally fast in Gingers hands. One comment often made was that the bike looks as if it’s doing 90 mph standing still! The 4 NMM bikes will be ridden at the festival by the following ‘NMM Team’ riders: James Hewing (NMM Museum Director) Wesley Wall (NMM Restoration Team) Henry Cole (Filming for an episode of The Motorbike Show) Allen Millyard (Filming for an episode of The Motorbike Show) To book tickets for the largest event of its kind: ticketing.goodwood.com/PagesPublic/UserControlled/UserDefined.aspx?page=Festival-of-Speed ...
