Big News For Road Racing Fans

TT stars Grant, Roberts confirmed as new Oliver’s Mount chiefs

Former Isle of Man TT stars Mick Grant and Eddie Roberts have been confirmed as the new promoters at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount circuit.

The duo’s club, Two Four Three Road Racing Association, have the full backing of Scarborough Borough Council and have already cemented two race weekends into the calendar: the Barry Sheene Classic on 27 and 28 July and the Gold Cup from 27 to 29 September.

It means road racing is returning to the mainland with full ACU backing after a year of uncertainty.

“Behind the scenes there’s been months and months of planning, there is a huge number of people I need to thank, and finally we can confirm road racing is set to return to Oliver’s Mount,” said Roberts, who has been heavily involved from the early stages.

Grant, who is a seven-time TT winner and has taken multiple Scarborough podiums, added: ““I watched my first road race at Oliver’s Mount in short pants back in the early 50s and it ignited my passion for racing, we couldn’t let this historic track crumble into the history books.

“We need road racing in England, it’s one of the finest tracks in the world; it’s unique. I can’t wait to hear and witness classic and modern bikes race around this demanding track once again. Today is an emotional and significant day.”

Former Radio 1 DJ Andy Kershaw had been linked with the project, along with others, and Roberts has thanked those for their continued support.

“In the beginning there was a lot of people on board helping to put a rescue plan together for Oliver’s Mount. Nick Jefferies, Ian Lougher, Andy Kershaw and George Beale to name a few, it turned out that only Mick and I remained in discussions with Scarborough Borough Council,” said Roberts.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all above mentioned and look forward to their continued support.”
